IMPORTANT PHONE NUMBERS and RESOURCES for those businesses impacted by hurricane sandy Dear NJLBA Members: Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by the devastating hurricane Sandy. We hope that you and your families are safe and if there is anything the NJLBA can do for you during this difficult time please let us know. As members of the NJLBA we are here in Trenton ready to assist you in any way we can. President Obama has issued a major disaster declaration for Atlantic, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Union Counties. That means the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is accepting applications for disaster relief from those businesses and individuals affected in those counties. You can register online at www.disasterassistance.gov, by web-enabled mobile device at m.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech impaired. The toll free number will operate free 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. EDT seven days a week until further notice. You can visit the NJBIA website at www.njbia.org/hurricanesandy.aspx for links for power outages, where to get gasoline, and which businesses are open. To report life threatening infactstructure problems, call (609)963-6810 For guidance for Emergency action planning for retail food establishments: http://nj.gov/health/foodanddrugsafety/fepd.shtml As members of the NJLBA we have contacted BMI on your behalf. We will be providing them with a list of the counties and businesses that have been affected by the hurricane. They have graciously advised us that they will make necessary adjustments and credits for those businesses that have been impacted by the storm. If you want to contact BMI directly that number is 1-800-206-7671, identify yourself as an NJLBA member affected by the hurricane, BMI representatives are aware of the circumstances. We can handle these calls for you as well. For those that need to store any alcoholic beverage inventory off there licensed premises for any period of time, we suggest you find a secure location to keep it in. You will need to apply for a Temporary Storage permit from the Division of ABC. You can find this permit on our website. If you need us to deliver this permit to the ABC in Trenton for you, please contact us at (609)394-6730 and fax the permit to (609)394-6732. We will deliver the application to the ABC. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission has issued Administrative Order 2012-03: Authorizes a 30 day extension for all driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations and inspection stickers that expired in October 2012. Individuals with these situations should not be cited by law enforcement in the next 30 days. Count on Us one of our Allied Members that handles Liquor Inventory and Spotter Service has contacted us to offer there assistance. If you need a liquor audit done for insurance purposes they will do it at a reasonable rate for all of our members. You can contact them at (856)486-4400. June 13, 2012 What Happened to Main Street USA? Several generations ago, The American dream could be realized by opening your own business. Operating a business required long hours and dedication but provided rewards… Main Street was filled with Mom and Pop operations that kept towns alive. Hardware stores, barbers, small grocery markets, restaurants and taverns were the rule. Today, most if those small businesses have been driven out of business by competition from “big box” companies. Commerce has moved to the strip malls and highway mega-stores. The only part of the American dream left is the alcohol beverage retailer, the heart of the hospitality industry. Over the years, the neo-prohibitionists have proposed more and more restrictions and legislation that are meant to curtail the ability of the individual entrepreneur to survive For over 77 years the New Jersey Licensed Beverage Association has represented the on premise licensees in their fight to stay in business. Hundreds of legislative bills are introduced each Legislative session which must be fought. Devoted lobbyists in Trenton and Washington are working to protect your bottom line. The annual dues of $250.00 are a small investment to insure your business from over-bearing regulations and over zealous legislation. Being in business is hard enough. Don’t try doing it alone. Being an Association member allows you to receive superior products at competitive prices. Discounts from our Allied Members are available.
